Colorguard Question.-How to throw a double.?

My new guard coach taught us a new move where it starts with that flag across my body with the silk point down and I cannot get a double, I get one and a half and it comes for me to catch horizontal instead of vertical how she wants us to catch it. How do I get more spin? I already tried adding more left hand push but i still just get one and a half.
