What substrate should I use for my leopard gecko?

I was reading some other yahoo questions about the same matter, however I use a blend of crushed walnuts that simulate desert sand. It is about the same size and regular sand. Could this cause impaction in their intestines like regular sand can cause? Please respond! I'm worried about my infant gecko!
