Check-in Bags....Are Tools allowed?

In check in bags, tools are allowed. They may trigger a manual search of your bag, but that isn't really a problem. I've even picked up parts from a dealer in the US and carried them in checked luggage on a flight back to Italy when a friend couldn't readily get parts to fix her car here in Italy.
